About Me

Hi! Thank you for visiting my ‘about me’ page to learn more about the weird lady who runs this blog! My name is Laura and I work in communications and external engagement at a university in the UK. It’s tough sometimes being in higher education but I mostly get to talk about all the great research, volunteering, and other things that our staff and students get up to, which is really nice.

I started at my university as an undergraduate media student in 2014, after completing my postgraduate degree in journalism, I started my communications job.

I live in Derby with my other half. We both love getting outdoors and having little adventures and we’re currently buying our first house together! Here’s a picture of us together on a recent trip away which was completely lovely.

Here are some things I enjoy:

Blogging

I created my blog whilst studying my print-based media diploma at college as somewhere to share my work and practice my writing. Laura Burden blogs is essentially about me writing about what I’ve been getting up to and the things I love doing, there isn’t really a plan!

Reading

I’m currently enjoying new releases based on recommendations from friends and bookstores. I’ll try almost anything when it comes to books! Constantly trying, and usually failing, to get through my to-read shelves.

You can check out my Goodreads page to see where I’m at with my yearly reading challenge and what I’m currently reading.

Plants

Over the last couple of years, I’ve become a bit of a houseplant enthusiast. So, you’ll probably see some tips on here for how to be a good plant momma (or daddy). I don’t have a garden of my own currently as we are renting but, I’m looking forward to buying our first house soon and getting stuck into designing the garden.

Here’s the most recent plant I bought – a Golden Pothos. It’ll grow and grow and grow and is a lovely climbing/dangling plant so I’m excited to see how it does.
